Urban Kings Music Group would like to congratulate Art Laboe for being inducted into the Radio Hall Of Fame. Art Laboe has created a huge legacy in our genre, and will always be a person who we have listened to, even throughout our childhood, and into our teen and adult years. Mr Laboe has transcended many generations of listeners. His story in radio began in 1949, with an overnight show that he recorded live at the Schrivner’s Drive In, that was broadcasted on KXLA (which later renamed its station KRLA). Art was also on KFWB and KPOP, and is credited to be the first to play “Rock N Roll” and a young Elvis Presley in Southern California. Then, in 1979, Art joined the station KRLA, after the radio station became the very first station to play Oldies full time. Since then, his radio show has been syndicated all over the country, with listeners listing to his “Killer Oldies”. Art Laboe also has a very successful oldies music series called “Dedicated To You”, Brenton Woods “18 Best”, and “Viva Hip Hop”.
This is not the first award Art Laboe has won, as he has received a “Diamond Circle Award” from the Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters. He has also received the L.A Radio Lifetime Achievement award, as well as being featured on the front page of the Los Angeles Times Newspaper for being an inspiration to his listeners. Art has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Los Angeles declared July 17th “Art Laboe Day”. The Golden Palm Star in Palm Springs, also dedicated a star to Art on the Palm Springs Walk Of Stars.
From every member of the UKMG Family, we wish Mr Art Laboe the very best of congratulations.
